I have lately been bumping into the name These New Puritans on various forums quite often and finally decided to see what all the fuss is about.
Apparently, all band members are still (just) in their teens and live in Southend-On-Sea in the UK. They have so far released a 7" single in November 2006 called Now Pluvial EP. I assume more is to come. The video here is a live version of the first track Elvis of the EP. As you will hear, they don't quite sound like your average band. In fact, I haven't heard anything quite like it. The singer does resemble Mark E. Smith from The Fall somewhat, though.
After hearing this a couple of times, I'm starting to quite like this even if it is a bit art-schoolish. There is certainly energy there. Find more songs on www.thesenewpuritans.com (and I really mean 'find' as you will see when you visit the site) and on www.myspace.com/thesenewpuritans. Also check YouTube for a couple of more quite interesting videos.
Trivia: They were asked to create the music to Dior Homme's Autumn/Winter 2007-2008 fashion show. Not bad for a bunch of teenagers!
