Set to be released on May 24th, "Other Creatures" is Bird Call’s new EP of cover songs - the work of Brooklyn musician, Chiara Angelicola and famed producer Joel Hamilton, who has previously produced Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, and The Black Keys. "Other Creatures" is Bird Call’s second collaboration with Hamilton, having previously released the "The Animals Know" EP less than a year ago under the artist’s own label (FHC Records, September 2010).
That release garnered Angelicola attention that led to an L.A. Music Award nomination for Hot Adult Contemporary Album. The EP track, "Waltz In The Snow" was also named a finalist in the 2010 International Songwriting Competition judged by Tom Waits, Peter Gabriel, and others. Following an opening slot for The Tallest Man On Earth at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco, Angelicola celebrated the success of "The Animals Know" with her first ever residency at Pete’s Candy Store in Brooklyn in January 2011.
Around this time, the EP grabbed the interest of The Deli, whose editors nominated Bird Call as its #1 Emerging Artist of 2010. With an average of 200 digital downloads a month on iTunes, "The Animals Know" continues to glisten as a strong independent release in the music world. Bird Call's latest work, "Other Creatures" is yet another display of the artist at her most sincere, creative, and endearing. Covering songs by the likes of Beck (featuring Dave Smallen), Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, and Kate Bush among others, Bird Call pays tribute to some of her favorite artists from the 80’s, 90’s, and present day.
Born in a small, hippie suburb of San Francisco, Angelicola grew up listening in on her mother’s bossa nova band rehearsals and taking the stage in front of the fireplace to entertain her parents’ guests through her plastic microphone. Up until her venture to New York in 2009, Angelicola stirred the music scene of the Bay Area with her haunting and nostalgic vocal performances. San Francisco's Amoeba Records store made her as an “Artist of The Month” and Angelicola placed #16 out of hundreds as an MTV2 "Bay Area Break-Out Artist."
Bird Call's "Other Creatures" EP will be released to all major digital download stores on May 24th with an EP release show that same night at The Deli’s "Best of NYC" Festival at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn. Extensive national touring to follow.
