As soon as Liam Finn came on stage, he was greeted with a "Happy Birthday to You" song, as sung by his eager and devoted fans. Finn would later confessed that he spent 9/24 at midnight celebrating his birthday in Chicago... and that Minneapolis was his birthday hungover.
Liam Finn drum solo
As you can tell from the setlist (see photograph), Finn does it right with mixing in new and old songs. The new songs done live ("Cold Feet", "Real Late", "Don't Even Know Your Name", "Roll Of The Eye", "Jump Your Bones") are from his mid-June release of FOMO. I wasn't too familiar with them, but they sounded great. Each song sounds very epic, and after each song, you'd think that was the closer (but that honor goes to "Lead Balloon", a fan-favorite from his debut 2007 album, I'll Be Lightning).
Liam Finn is wrapping up his tour in October, be sure to come early to check out Marques Toliver. Check out Toliver on NPR's World Café with David Dye. Toliver's debut EP, Butterflies Are Not Free, was released September 13th via Bella Union Records. Liam Finn's third album, FOMO is out now on Yep Roc Records (go to the link for a free download of "The Struggle").
